Three Cougars Land on All-Conference USA First Team

IRVING, Texas - The No. 24 University of Houston women's basketball team placed three players on the All-Conference USA First Team, as Porsche Landry, Brittney Scott and Courtney Taylor all earned the honor, the league office announced Sunday.
This season's selections mark the 11th-consecutive year that a Cougar has earned First Team All-C-USA honors.
Taylor garnered first-team accolades for the third-consecutive season, as well as being named to the All-Defensive Team for the third time in her storied career. The Crockett, Texas, native put together another outstanding campaign with 15.9 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Taylor led the league in rebounds and defensive rebounds (8.5 rpg), while ranking third in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage (50.5) and offensive rebounds (3.0 rpg), seventh in blocked shots (1.5 bpg) and steals (2.2 spg) and eighth in free-throw percentage (75.2).
Taylor, who earned five C-USA Player of the Week honors this season, continued to climb the Houston career charts this season and is prominent in nearly every statistical category. The highlight came on Jan. 20 at UAB when Taylor grabbed her 1,012th-career rebound to set the all-time Houston record. Taylor became only the second player in school history and one of six all-time in C-USA with 1,000-career points and rebounds. Taylor also holds the school record and ranks third in C-USA history with 59-career double-doubles, one shy of tying for second in league history.
The senior forward also ranks first in Houston history in defensive rebounds (807), while ranking second in rebounding average (10.0) and offensive rebounds (338), third in made free-throws (371), free-throw attempts (547), blocked shots (137), games started (109) and minutes played (3,455), fifth in points scored (1,641), made field goals (619) and steals (211), sixth in field goal attempts (1,269) and seventh in field goal percentage (48.8).
Scott earned first-team honors for the first time in her career and all-conference accolades for the second-consecutive season after leading the league in scoring with 16.3 points per game. Scott was one of the most consistent players this season, scoring in double figures in 25 contests, including her current 13-game double-digit scoring streak.
The Orange, Texas, native was one of the most deadly shooters from beyond the arc in C-USA, ranking second in the league in 3-point percentage (40.2) and 3-point field goals per game (2.7). Scott currently ranks second in Houston history with 77 treys this season.
Like Taylor, Scott has continued to etch her name in the Houston record book, and also hit a career milestone against UAB on Jan. 20, becoming the school's all-time 3-point shooter with her 189th-career triple. Scott also holds the school record in 3-point attempts (619), while ranking second in free-throw percentage (79.7), third in 3-point percentage (35.5), fifth in made free-throws (307) and field goal attempts (1,287), sixth in free-throw attempts (385), eighth in scoring (1,489) and ninth in made field goals (480).
Landry earned her first all-conference honor after a breakout season that saw her rank fourth in the league with 14.9 points per game. Landry has flourished in first-year head coach Todd Buchanan's up-tempo style of play, averaging 5.0 more points per game than her career average. Landry also ranks sixth in C-USA in free-throw percentage (76.7), eighth in assists (3.9 apg) and 12th in steals (1.9 spg).
The Houston native has matched her career total this season with 23 games of 10 or more points. Landry earned two C-USA Player of the Week mentions this season, the first coming after pouring in a career-high 31 points in a thrilling 93-89 victory at Oral Roberts. The second weekly honor came after Landry averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in Houston's big victories over No. 21 Nebraska and Louisville in Las Vegas, Nev.
Landry came up in huge situations all season, with possibly the biggest coming at Louisiana Tech with 16 of her 20 points coming in the second half as Houston rallied back from 16 points down with 10 minutes remaining. Landry also tallied 19 of her 24 points in the second half at UAB and 20 of 22 points in the final 20 minutes against Rice.
The C-USA specialty awards will be announced on Monday.
The Cougars earned the top seed in the 2011 Buick C-USA Women's Basketball Championship and will receive a first-round bye, meeting the winner of the UTEP vs. SMU game in the quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. CT on Thursday night.
