Houston Tennis Drops Heartbreaker at Kansas, 4-3

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Houston tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Kansas Saturday afternoon at Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan. The Cougars fell to 7-6 overall, while the Jayhawks improved to 4-4 on the season.
Kansas opened play by sweeping the Cougars at all three doubles positions to take the match's opening point.
Ekaterina Morozova knocked off Bryony Hunter at the top singles position to put Kansas up 2-0 before Houston's Maja Kazimieruk posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Erin Wilbert at the No. 3 spot to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Joanna Kacprzyk then dropped Dylan Windom at the No. 4 position by a score of 6-4, 6-3, and Dionne Sanders followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Victoria Khanevskaya to put Houston up 3-2 in the match.
Giorgia Pozzan then dropped a hard-fought 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 decision to Paulina Los at the No. 2 slot as Kansas evened the score at three points apiece, and the Jayhawks' May Barnthouse knocked off Jo Garvey at the bottom position in straight sets to give Kansas the win.
The Cougars continue their nine-match road tilt at IUPUI at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
