San Marcos, Texas - The Cougar pitching staff held Texas State to two hits and junior Jake Runte hit a home run but it wasn't enough to give the University of Houston baseball team a win over the Bobcats and they would fall 2-1 in the series opener.
With the Cougars trailing, 2-0, Runte hit a home run to lead off the fourth inning, his second home run of the season. But despite the home run and seven Cougar hits that would be the only points UH would put on the board in the contest.
Junior Mo Wiley and senior Chase Dempsay combined to allow just two hits to the Bobcats for the first Cougar two-hitter since 2007, when Wes Musick and Bryan Tully combined for the feat against Stanford. Wiley pitched five innings, allowing two runs on one hit with three strikeouts. Dempsay pitched the final three innings with two strikeouts.
Isaac Nuti drew a walk to lead off the third inning for Texas State and Tyler Sibley hit an inside the park home run to give the Bobcats their two runs.
