Baseball Prepares For First Weekend Trip Away From Houston

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will head to San Marcos, Texas, for its first weekend series outside the city limits this weekend as they face Texas State, March 11-13.
The series begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, continues at 2 p.m. Saturday and will conclude at 1 p.m. Sunday. Fans can hear all of the weekend's game action live on UHCougars.com through the online radio link and livestats will also be available via the internet by clicking on the Gametracker link on the baseball schedule page. Texas State will stream live video for each game and fans can purchase a feed of the game by going to www.txstatebobcats.com/showcase.
This weekend's series against Texas State marks the 36th meeting all-time between the two schools. Houston leads the series 25-10 and is 3-1 all-time in San Marcos. The two teams met during the opening weekend of the 2010 season at Cougar Field and the Bobcats won all three games of the series.
The Cougars enter the weekend with a 7-6 record after knocking off Texas Southern, 13-3, Wednesday night at Cougar Field. Houston recorded 17 hits against the Tigers for their highest total since notching 18 hits against UT Arlington on opening day.
Chase Jensen leads the team with a .367 batting average and is second on the team with 15 RBIs. Caleb Ramsey has hit a team-high six doubles and has a team-high 16 RBIs.
On the mound, Matt Creel and Jordan Lewis are boasting a combined 4-0 record. Creel is 3-0 in 11.1 innings with a 1.59 ERA, while Lewis is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA.
Texas State is 9-3 this season after falling to Baylor, 6-4, on Tuesday night. They swept Texas A&M Corpus Christi last weekend and prior to Tuesday's loss had won seven straight games.
Tyler Sibley leads Texas State with a .444 batting average, including five doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. As a team the Bobcats are hitting .300 with 21 doubles, two triples and eight home runs.
Mitchell Pitts has pitched a team-high 18.2 innings for the Bobcats and is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA. The Texas State pitching staff has given up just 54 runs and has a 3.81 team ERA.
UP NEXT
Houston will continue its season against Sam Houston State on March 15 at Cougar Field. They will then travel to McNeese State on March 16 before hosting a three-game series against Kent State, March 18-20.
