HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team earned a No. 25 national ranking in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday. The ranking is the first for the Cougars in the AP poll since Dec. 20, 2004.
Houston became the first Conference USA team to earn a national ranking since the 2007-08 season when the Cougars were slated No. 25 in the USA Today/ESPN Division I Coaches' Poll on Feb. 22.
The Cougars extended their school-record winning streak to 15 games with a come-from-behind victory over Rice on Sunday to remain unbeaten in C-USA play. Houston improved to 24-4 overall, marking the fourth-most wins in a season in school history.
Houston features three of the top four scorers in the league in Brittney Scott (15.9 ppg), Courtney Taylor (15.6 ppg) and Porsche Landry (15.3 ppg). Taylor also ranks fourth nationally with 18 double-doubles and eighth in the country with 11.4 rebounds per game.
The Cougars will look to become only the second team in C-USA history to go undefeated in league play with their home finale against Tulane at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
With the purchase of a ticket to the men's basketball contest against Rice at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, patrons receive free admission to the women's game. For as low as $15 fans can catch both contests, or purchase a ticket to the women's contest for as low as $8.
