Baseball Looks To Continue Win Streak Tuesday Against SFA

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will look to continue its winning ways at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night when they play host to Stephen F. Austin at Cougar Field.
The Cougars are off to their best start since 1993 after a 3-0 sweep of UT Arlington during the opening weekend of the season. Sophomore shortstop Chase Jensen was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after finishing the weekend with a .600 batting average, two doubles, a homerun and five RBIs. The Cougar pitching staff surrendered just nine runs to the Mavericks and are posting a 2.00 ERA.

Tuesday's meeting marks the 47th overall meeting between Houston and the SFA. The Cougars hold a 36-11 lead in the all-time series and posted a 10-3 win in their only meeting last season.
The Lumberjacks went 2-2 last weekend in four games against Arkansas-Little Rock in Nacogdoches, Texas. SFA won the first game 8-7 in 11 innings, split a Saturday doubleheader and lost the series finale on Sunday.
The SFA pitching staff surrendered 18 runs over the weekend and posted a 3.08 ERA, while the Lumberjacks went a combined 41-for-137 at the plate to post a .299 team batting average. Jackson Hood led the way at the plate, going 3-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs.
Houston freshman RHP Chase Wellbrock has been tabbed as Tuesday's starter. It will be the first career start for the Brenham, Texas native. At Brenham High School, Wellbrock was an All-State selection and the 4A Player of the Year.
Wellbrock will face off against SFA's RHP Jared West. He is 1-0 this season after earning the win on opening day. He went two scoreless innings, walking two batters and striking out two.

Houston will continue its home stand this weekend when they play host to Ole Miss, Feb. 25-27. Game one of the series is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Friday, continue at 7 p.m. Saturday and conclude at 1 p.m. Sunday. Fans should note Saturday's start time has been changed from the previously released time of 6:30 p.m.
