HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team looks to build on its four-match winning streak this weekend by kicking off a nine-match road swing against Louisiana-Monroe and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. The Cougars will meet UL-Monroe at noon on Saturday and follow with a 10:00 a.m. contest on Sunday against Northwestern State.
Houston pulled off the sweep last weekend at home with wins over UT-Pan American, Texas State and UTEP to improve to 6-2 overall.
The Cougars cruised past UTPA by a score of 6-1 and followed with a 5-2 defeat of Texas State, giving head coach John Severance his 100th-career victory. In the weekend finale, the Cougars won the final three singles matches in a come-from-behind 4-3 win over UTEP.
Giorgia Pozzan has won six consecutive matches for a 6-1 singles mark, while Joanna Kacprzyk has also posted a 6-1 record after winning all three singles matches last weekend.
Freshman Celia Fraser has posted wins in three of her four career matches at the top singles position, including the clinching victory against UTEP.
