TULSA, Okla. - Lesslee Mason and Courtney Taylor each posted double-doubles as the University of Houston women's basketball team cruised to a 72-56 victory over Tulsa Thursday evening at Reynolds Center. The Cougars (21-4, 12-0) claimed their 12th-straight win to clinch a share of the Conference USA regular season title.
Mason tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds in only 22 minutes of action, going 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Taylor registered her 16th double-double of the season and 56th of her career with 12 points and 12 rebounds in 30 minutes. The Crockett, Texas, native was 6-of-7 from the charity stripe and handed out a game-high four assists.
Brittney Scott rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Porsche Landry added nine points off a 4-of-6 effort from the field with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Landry surpassed the 300-career assist mark, becoming only the seventh Cougar all-time to achieve the feat.
The Houston bench was productive once again, as Roxana Button and Jasmine Johnson combined for 18 points in the victory.
Button rattled off nine first-half points to go with a season-high five boards, while Johnson also posted nine points in 22 minutes.
Tulsa (5-15, 1-11) held its only lead at 5-4 three minutes into the contest before Houston put together a 14-3 run, capped off by Button's first 3-pointer in the last five games, as the Cougars ran out to a 10-point advantage.
Houston took a 36-22 lead into the break when Scott found a wide open Landry for the layup at the buzzer.
The Cougars led by 12 at the 16:46 mark of the second half before putting together an 18-4 run as Mae Woods converted a layup to give Houston its biggest lead of the contest at 58-32 with 10:12 remaining.
Houston held Tulsa to just 33-percent (22-of-67) shooting from the field and a nine-percent effort (1-of-11) from 3-point range. The Cougars limited Taleya Mayberry, the league's fifth-best scorer entering the contest, to just five points and no made field goals.
The Cougars shot 39 percent (24-of-61) from the field, 27 percent (4-of-15) from downtown and 87 percent (20-of-23) from the stripe.
Houston won the rebound battle by a 47-41 margin while turning the ball over 19 times.
Jermaine Kermis led Tulsa with nine points, while Loren McDaniel added eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Cougars will look to clinch the league's regular season title outright at home against UTEP at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

*Houston evened its series record with Tulsa at 6-6 overall and 2-4 against the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa.
