Sims Tabbed C-USA Offensive Player of the Week

HOUSTON - Sophomore running back Charles Sims was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a career-high 207 yards on only 10 carries with two touchdowns in Houston's 73-17 rout of Tulane, the league office announced Monday.
The award is the first in Sims' career, while marking the fifth weekly offensive award for the Cougars this season and the seventh overall.
Sims averaged 28.4 yards per carry in the first half and finished the game averaging 20.7 yards per tote to set a school single-game record. The Houston native broke the 58-year old record of 19.9 yards per carry set by Don Hargrove in 1953 vs. Detroit.
Sims had three carries of 50-plus yards in the game, including touchdown scampers of 72 and 52 yards.
With five receptions for 45 yards, Sims finished the night with 252 all-purpose yards.
Sims has now posted a touchdown in seven-straight games and has a team-leading nine touchdowns on the ground and 13 total scores. The Houston native is also averaging an astounding 8.8 yards per carry and ranks third in C-USA with 73.1 yards on the ground per game.
The 10th-ranked Cougars play host to SMU at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Robertson Stadium as part of ESPN's College GameDay.
