Pozzan Advances to Finals at SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - University of Houston senior Giorgia Pozzan advanced to the finals in singles play to highlight action for the Cougar tennis team on day two of the SDSU Fall Classic Saturday.
Pozzan, a native of Lacchiarella, Italy, outlasted Lucia Kovarcikova of Utah by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 to advance to the final round. Pozzan will face San Diego's Anna Depenau for the black draw title on Sunday.
Two Cougars won their singles matches in their respective consolation draws to advance to the final round. Celia Fraser topped Annemieke Witte of New Mexico State by a score of 6-2, 6-2, while Dionne Sanders cruised past Shelby Sinoway of Cal State Northridge by a score of 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Houston duo of Liselot Koenen and Sanders topped Cal State Northridge's McCrary and Korab to advance to the red draw consolation finals, while the Cougar tandem of Fraser and Jo Garvey will also play in the black draw consolation finals after an 8-5 victory over San Diego State's Antonana-Iriarte and Somoracz.
