HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team completed the second and final day of the Houston Indoor Invitational and Multi Events. The men won the meet's final event with a 3:14.48 time in the 4x400m relay.
The Cougars ran Errol Nolan, Joseph Irabor, Doug Kelley and Kelvin Furlough in their easy victory over the field. That relay foursome holds the UH school record in the event with their 3:08.52 time they registered earlier this year. As of the conclusion of Saturday's meet, that time was the second fastest in the NCAA.
Before the 4x400m relay, Furlough raced to first place in the 400m dash in 48.11. The Southwestern Christian College transfer needed only four races - while finishing in the top six across three events - before gaining his first individual title at Houston. The junior from Dallas, Texas, adds another strong sprinter for the four-time defending Conference USA Indoor Champions.
With the meet not scored for points and a number of runners preparing for next week's distinguished indoor meet at the New Balance Invitational, many runners were resting.
The women sprinters showed up strong in the 60m dash, taking the top three places among the collegiate sprinters. Christie Jones finished third (7.44) to two professional runners. Grecia Bolton took fourth (7.45) and Whitney Harris placed fifth (7.50). Fellow All-American from last year's 4x100m relay team, Kalyn Floyd, turned in the sixth fastest before being held out of the finals.

The Houston track and field team divides up to send a portion of the team to the New Balance Invitational in New York this Friday and Saturday, and the remaining athletes will compete in the Houston All-Comers Meet on Saturday.
