Softball Travels to Waco Saturday for Regular-Season Finale

HOUSTON - After claiming the Marshall series last weekend, the University of Houston softball team looks to reach 30 wins in the season-finale doubleheader against Baylor. Originally scheduled for Feb. 23 in Waco, Texas, the twinbill was postponed due to inclement weather. Now set for this weekend, first pitch is scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday at Getterman Stadium.

Ashleigh Jones leads the Cougars in batting average (.339), at bats (171), hits (58), triples (4) and stolen bases (7). The Spring, Texas product also ranks in the top three with 25 runs, 67 total bases and .365 on-base percentage. Bailey Watts leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 2.85, striking out 155 batters in 149.2 innings on a 13-9 record.
Nicole Wesley leads the Bears in batting average (.406) with 54 hits on 133 at bats, recording three doubles, 12 RBI and 57 total bases. Whitney Canion (5-3) leads in the circle with a 1.58 ERA, striking out 79 batters in 48.2 innings during 11 appearances.
Baylor (26-23, 6-12 Big 12) leads the all-times series 10-6 against Houston (28-22-1, 12-10-1 Conference USA).
Houston faced Baylor earlier this season in the Marriott Hobby Invitational on Feb. 14. The Cougars dropped the matchup in a 4-0 shutout by the Bears when Baylor was ranked No. 15.

Houston hosts the 2010 C-USA Softball Tournament at Cougar Softball Stadium on May 13-15. As the hosting school, the Cougars are guaranteed the 7 p.m. slot, regardless of seeding, on Thursday, May 13. For more information, click HERE
