After spending the last few seasons playing overseas, former University of Houston women's basketball standout Chandi Jones is preparing to make her return to the WNBA after signing a training camp contract with the Atlanta Dream.
Jones was selected by the Phoenix Mercury with the eighth overall pick of the 2004 WNBA draft but was traded on the same day to the Detroit Shock. She played in 68 career WNBA games between the Shock and Minnesota Lynx, to whom she was traded in 2005.
The Bay City, Texas, native was nothing short of sensational during her Houston playing career, becoming a three-time All-America selection, including being the first Houston player selected as a Kodak All-American.
The Conference USA Player of the Decade and three-time C-USA Player of the Year honoree, Jones averaged more than 23 points per game during her career and led the nation in scoring as a junior in 2002-03 with a 27.5 point per game average. She is the Cougars' all-time leading scorer with 2,692 career points.
In Atlanta, Jones is reunited with former Houston teammate Sancho Lyttle who joined Atlanta during the 2009 season after spending her first four seasons in the WNBA with the Houston Comets.
During their lone season together in Houston in 2003-04, the dynamic pair of Jones and Lyttle guided the Cougars to unprecedented success that included a school-record 28 wins. The Cougars also captured both the C-USA regular season and tournament championships to advance to the NCAA Tournament where they won the only NCAA postseason game in program history.
