Baseball Concludes Regular Season At East Carolina

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will close out the 2010 regular season with a three-game series against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C., Thursday through Saturday.
Thursday night's game will start at 6 p.m., the series will continue at 7 p.m. on Friday, with the finale on Saturday scheduled for a noon start. Live stats and the online radio broadcast will be available for all three games by logging on to UHCougars.com.
Friday night's game will also air live on CBS College Sports. Tom Hart will be calling the play-by-play and Kevin Stocker will be the analyst.
Houston is looking to bounce back from a 15-5 non-conference loss to Rice, Tuesday night, in the final game of the 2010 Silver Glove Series. With the loss, the Cougars fell to 22-29 on the season. Zak Presley leads the team with a .363 batting average with five doubles, a triple and three home runs.
East Carolina is 30-23 on the season after falling to James Madison, 11-5 on Tuesday night. Corey Thompson leads the Pirates at the plate with a .377 batting average, including 14 doubles, three triples and six home runs.
Michael Goodnight has been named the starter in Thursday night's series opener, with Zach Woods making the start for ECU. Goodnight is 5-7 on the year and leads all starters with a 5.47 ERA and 76 strikeouts. Woods is making his 12th start this season and holds an 8-3 record with a 4.31 ERA.
In Friday night's televised game, William Kankel will make the start on the mound for Houston against Seth Maness of East Carolina. Kankel is 2-6 in his senior season with a 6.13 ERA in 54.1 innings. Maness is 9-3 with a 4.40 ERA in a team-leading 88 innings.
The series finale will see Eric Brooks of UH make the start against an undetermined Pirate pitcher. Brooks earned the win in the series finale against Marshall last weekend to improve to 5-2 with a 6.75 ERA.
The all-time series against East Carolina stands at 17-13 in the Pirates favor. In the last series in Greenville, N.C., Houston went 2-1.
