HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will play two mid-week games as they travel to Sam Houston on Tuesday and will play host to Lamar on Wednesday at Cougar Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in both contests.
Live stats and live audio broadcasts will be available for both games by logging on to UHCougars.com.
The Cougars (16-22) will start Mo Wiley against SHSU, while the Bearkats have not determined a starter for the contest. Wiley is 3-2 on the season in 31 innings. This will be his fifth start of the season and his 16th appearance for the year. The Katy, Texas, native was victorious in his last start against UTSA on April 1, going three innings with three strikeouts.
Sam Houston State stands at 16-25 on the season and is coming off a series loss to Nicholls State last weekend.
The Cougars hold a narrow, 74-73, lead in the series against Sam Houston. A series tie was broken earlier this season when UH defeated SHSU, 4-2, at Cougar Field. That victory snapped a two-game losing streak against the Bearkats.
In the last meeting, Cougar pitching shined with Michael Goodnight throwing 5.2 scoreless innings, striking out eight batters while giving up just five hits.
For just the second time this season, Houston will play a second mid-week game Wednesday. The Cougars send Ty Stuckey to the mound to start the game against Lamar, which counters with Blake Ford. Stuckey has made three starts this season and appeared in 12 games on the year. The Spring, Texas, native, has a 3.10 ERA in 20.1 innings.
Ford also made the start in the first meeting between the two programs, going three scoreless innings with two walks.
Lamar stands at 26-16 this season. The Cardinals had a seven-game win streak snapped by UTSA in the series finale Sunday. The team, however, finished 2-1 in the league series.
Houston aims to rebound from a heart breaking loss to Lamar 7-5 last week and will try to do so at Cougar Field where the Cougars are 25-10 against the Cardinals in the overall series. The series record between these two schools is still well in the Cougars favor 48-24.
The Cougars are looking to rebound from a tough weekend series at Conference USA rival Southern Miss. Joel Ansley had a productive weekend going 6-for-14 with four RBIs and two runs. His best at-bat came in the series finale in which he blasted a three-run home run to pull the Cougars within striking distance of the Golden Eagles. The Wharton, Texas, native leads the team with 52 hits, 29 RBIs and is tied with triples with four. He also ranks second on the team with a .359 batting average and seven doubles.
Caleb Ramsey, the team leader in batting average, joined Ansley with a strong performance on the weekend. The Houston, Texas, native went 5-for-11, with three RBIs and three runs against USM. Ramsey currently ranks ninth in C-USA with a .375 batting average.
Zak Presley also left his mark on last weekend's series, going 5-for-13, with four RBIs, a double and a stolen base. The Southlake, Texas, native is third on the team in batting average, hitting for a .353 average and is tied for the team lead with 10 stolen bases.
