Baseball Travels To Southern Miss For Weekend Series

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., April 23-25, for a three-game series against Southern Miss at Pete Taylor Park.
The series opener will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, continuing at 4 p.m. Saturday, with the series finale slated for a 1 p.m. start Sunday.

Houston enters the series will a 16-19 record after falling to Lamar, 7-6, Wednesday night. The Cougars stand at 4-5 in Conference USA action. Caleb Ramsey paces UH with a .367 batting average. He also has a team-high nine doubles with two triples and two home runs.
The Golden Eagles fell to Ole Miss, 7-2, Tuesday night and stand at 18-17 on the year and 2-7 in C-USA. Taylor Walker leads the team at the plate with a .372 batting average. He has nine doubles and is tied for a team-high with four home runs.
Taylor Hammack will be making his second consecutive Friday night start for the Cougars and Scott Copeland will make the start for Southern Miss. Hammack is 1-2 on the season and leads the team with a 4.15 ERA. In 39 innings he has allowed 35 hits with 31 strikeouts. Copeland is 5-0 this season in seven starts and posts a 4.09 ERA. In 44 innings, Copeland has allowed 26 runs with 29 strikeouts.
Michael Goodnight has been tabbed the Saturday night starter for UH, while Todd McInnis will be on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Goodnight is 4-5 on the year, with a 4.55 ERA. In a team-high 52.2 innings, Goodnight has allowed 28 earned runs with a team leading 57 strikeouts. McInnis posts a team-low 3.30 ERA and is 2-4 in nine starts. In a team-leading 60 innings, McInnis has allowed 22 runs with 62 strikeouts.
In the Sunday finale, the starter for both teams has not been determined.
The Cougars are 23-21 all-time against the Golden Eagles, after going 1-2 in the series last season at Cougar Field. Houston is also 11-7 in road games against Southern Miss. UH last traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss., in 2008 and were swept in the three-game series. The Cougar win last season in the series finale snapped a nine-game win streak by the Golden Eagles.

Houston will continue its five-game road stand with a mid-week contest at Sam Houston State on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. UH will then return home for a rematch with Lamar at Cougar Field on April 28 before heading to UAB for a series on April 30-May 2.
