Baseball Set to Host Memphis This Weekend

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team returns to Conference USA play when it faces the Memphis Tigers at Cougar Field April 16-18.
Friday and Saturday's games will begin at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's first pitch is set for 1 p.m. Live stats and a live radio broadcast will be available by logging on to UHCougars.com. Live video will also be available through the All-Access site. .. The Cougars (14-17, 2-4 C-USA) are coming off a 14-8 victory at UTSA Tuesday night. Sophomore Austin Gracey tied a single-game UH record by belting three homeruns. The Spring, Texas, native went 3-for-5 with seven RBIs as the Cougars bounced back after being swept by TCU last weekend.
Junior Tyler Hammack pitches against the Tigers' Brennon Martin Friday night. Hammack sports the third-lowest ERA (3.25) on the Houston pitching staff and allows the fifth- lowest opponent batting average (.224) in C-USA.
Michael Goodnight faces Ryan Fraser for Saturday evening's game. The pitching matchup for Houston in the Sunday game is to be determined with Ryan Holland receiving the nod for Memphis.
Houston has four batters hitting above .300 with Caleb Ramsey leading the team with a .362 average. Gracey moved into a tie with M.P. Cokinos and Chris Wallace for the team high in home runs after his outburst last game. Blake Kelso leads the team and is tied for the conference lead in triples (four), just one off the UH single season record. The Cougars, as a team, are also tied for the league lead in triples with 12.
Memphis defeated No. 15 Ole Miss 6-5 Tuesday night after going 1-2 in a weekend set against East Carolina. Memphis used eight pitchers, with not one going more than 1.2 innings, to secure the 13th win over a ranked opponent by a C-USA member this season.
The Tigers have three batters that rank among the top six in C-USA in total hits with Chad Zurcher (57), Drew Martinez (49) and Tyler Huelsing (48). Huelsing also has the second most home runs (11), RBIs (48) and total bases (94) in C-USA as well.
Houston has won the last six series against the Tigers and holds a 16-6 advantage against Memphis during that stretch. The Cougars also lead the all-time series 33-8 which began in 1997.
