Tennis Earns 4-3 Road Victory over McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The University of Houston tennis team moved to 11-7 Wednesday as the Cougars earned a 4-3 road victory over McNeese State.
Houston started the match by losing the doubles point, with the pair of freshman Bryony Hunter and junior Laura Ring notching the only UH victory in pairs play with a 8-5 win during the top doubles contest.
Trailing 1-0, the Cougars set their sights on singles play where junior Joanna Kacprzyk leveled the match's score with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Victoria Martinez in the No. 3 singles match. Shortly thereafter, freshman Maja Kazimieruk put Houston ahead with a win at the No. 4 spot, beating Petra Gudeji 6-4, 6-0.
McNeese State again took the lead in the match as Ring dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Ilona Serchenko in the No. 2 match and senior Neila Starratt fell 6-2, 6-4 to Inga Efimenko at the No. 6 spot.
The match was decided by a pair three-set matches, which took place at the No.1 and No. 5 spots. Hunter leveled the match at 3-3 with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win in the top singles match over Ralista Pirdopska, and junior Elena Kazakova clinched the Cougar victory with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Tea Tvrtkovic at the No. 5 position.

Houston will conclude the 2010 season on Sunday, April 18, when it hosts Conference USA rival UAB at John E. Hoff Courts at 11 a.m.
