HOUSTON - A two-match winning streak for the University of Houston tennis team came to an end Saturday when the Cougars fell to Louisiana-Monroe, 4-2, at John E. Hoff Courts. The loss leaves Houston's record this season at 10-7, while the Warhawks improve to 13-3.
The start of Saturday's match was delayed by rain in the Houston area and began with the singles competition where the Cougars fell in the top two matches as both Bryony Hunter and Laura Ring were unable to come up with victories. Junior Joanna Kacprzyk got the Cougars on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lena Satge in the No. 3 singles match.
The Warhawks' Ana Burjaili earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maja Kazimieruk at the No. 5 match, leaving the Cougars down in the match, 3-1, with just two singles contests remaining.
Senior Neila Starratt pulled the Cougars within one point as she completed a 7-6, 6-3 victory over ULM's Sidney Bruscato in the No. 6 singles contest. Houston needed a win at the No. 4 singles match to force the match into a deciding doubles competition. However, junior Elena Kazakova could not come up with the victory, falling to Vivian Polak 6-7, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 4 match to seal the 4-2 victory for the ULM.
