HOUSTON - After going 3-0 at the Houston College Classic over the weekend, Blake Kelso, M.P. Cokinos and Michael Goodnight were each named to the All-Tournament Team as it was announced at the conclusion of the tournament.
Kelso earned a spot on the team after going 4-for-10 over the weekend with a double, triple and an RBI. The Pflugerville, Texas, native's triple came against Texas on Saturday night and eventually led to Kelso scoring the Cougar's lone run in a 1-0 shutout of the Longhorns. In addition, Kelso snagged a line drive in the bottom of the ninth inning that secured Houston's win.
Cokinos tied the Houston College Classic single-game record with five RBIs in Houston's tournament finale win over Texas Tech. He recorded three of those RBIs off a three-run home run in the second inning as the Cougars knocked off the Red Raiders, 15-8. The freshman finished the weekend going 3-for-9 with six RBI.
Goodnight rounded out the Cougar's selections to the All-Tournament team. He recorded the win over Texas for the first shutout of his career. The Houston native went seven innings against the Longhorns, while giving up just two hits with nine strikeouts.
The trio guided Houston to a perfect record at the Classic, including back-to-back shutouts over Missouri and Texas and a win over Texas Tech. With the wins over Missouri and Texas, the Cougars become the first team in the history of the Houston College Classic to hold consecutive opponents scoreless.
Houston will have the week off before traveling to California for a three-game series against Cal Poly.
