HOUSTON - Following a standout season both on and off the court, Roxana Button of the University of Houston women's basketball team was one of the 12 Conference USA student-athletes to receive Spirit of Service Award for the winter sports season. This honor is bestowed on student-athletes who do significant community service, have and maintain good academic standing and excel in their respective sport. The awards are given out three times annually, and Button is the second Cougar to earn this honor this year.
This Coppell, Texas, native has dedicated her time to helping the community, first by joining forces with the University of Houston Cougar Athletics Association to deliver toys to the House of Tiny Treasures in Houston, and was a participant in the March Madness Shootout for the campus Dining Services.
While giving back to the community, this biology major has earned every C-USA academic honor available including spots on the ESPN the Magazine All-Academic team, C-USA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team and the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Button just wrapped up her sophomore campaign, playing in all 32 games and starting 17 contests. She grabbed 70 rebounds with 26 assists and 23 steals on the year, while averaging 7.5 points a game. She was named to the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational All-Tournament Team, after scoring 28 points, four boards, four assists and two steals in two games at the event.
