LUBBOCK, Texas - University of Houston women's basketball head coach Joe Curl will miss the Cougars' contest at Texas Tech on Thursday during the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament after being taken to a Lubbock area hospital with chest pains.
The absence will mark the second time this season the 12th-year Houston head coach has been away from the team due to health issues after missing five straight games from Feb. 14-27. After returning to coach the team in the regular season finale on March 4, Curl led the Cougars in both games the team played at the 2010 GMC Sierra Conference USA Championship.
Curl, who also missed the entire 2007-08 season following a heart attack, is in stable condition and under doctors' observation in Lubbock.
Fourth-year assistant coach Wade Scott will step in to lead the team against Texas Tech on Thursday with help from fellow assistants Tari Cummings and Chad Rickett.
