HOUSTON - University of Houston softball player Angela Spittler was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Spittler escalated to the top of the team's ranking after going 11-for-15 last week. The junior batted .733, collecting five RBI and seven runs to help Houston to its current six-game winning streak. In her top performance, the College Station, Texas product went a perfect 3-for-3, hitting her first career home run, driving in two RBI and scoring three runs of her own. She is currently on a six-game hitting streak.
In addition to defeating Monmouth and Southern in midweek contests, Spittler helped the Cougars sweep Southern Miss in their opening C-USA series. Houston took all three games from the Golden Eagles five times in program history, and the last time UH completed the sweep was in home series on March 21-22, 2007.
Spittler and the rest of the Cougars will host a doubleheader against North Dakota State before Houston hits the road for its first road series against C-USA foe UCF on March 20-21.
