AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Houston diving team concluded its three-day stay at the Texas Invitational with a platform diving title Saturday afternoon.
For the second time in as many meets, senior Lacey Truelove took the top spot in the platform diving competition, this time with an NCAA "A" qualifying score of 291.10 against the elite divers entered in the Texas Invitational at the University of Texas.
The Cougar senior won every time she took the pool this weekend, as she earned first place in the 3-meter Thursday evening and did not compete in Friday's 1-meter competition.
Truelove went up against Carrie Dragland of Miami (Fla.) for the second time this season as the Hurricanes came to Houston on Nov. 6, but Saturday marked their first match-up on the platform. The London, Ontario native prevailed in the close contest, edging Dragland (288.85) by less than three points.
Texas' Maren Taylor rounded out the top three with a score of 268.70 for third place. Sophomore Julia Lonnegren posted a score of 217.45 for 11th place.
Both divers will rejoin the swimmers when the team heads to Honolulu, Hawaii for the New Year Relay Meet and Diving Competition on Jan. 5.
