HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team continues preparations for its season opener on Nov. 14 with a 7:00 p.m. exhibition contest Tuesday night against Huston-Tillotson at Hofheinz Pavilion. Admission to the game is free to the public.
Tuesday's contest will mark the debut of first-year head coach Todd Buchanan, who came to Houston after spending five years at the helm of the Houston Baptist women's basketball program. Buchanan previously served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Houston from 2000-05, when the Cougars posted a record of 109-47 (.699) and made four postseason appearances, including two trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Buchanan will welcome the return of all five starters off last year's WNIT team, featuring the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Courtney Taylor. The Crockett, Texas, native has played in 88 games with 83 starts and holds the Houston all-time double-double record with 40. The other starters include preseason C-USA pick Brittney Scott, Porsche Landry, Brittany Mason and Lesslee Mason.
The Cougars return nine of last season's 10 letterwinners overall, including junior guard Roxana Button, who ranks second all-time in Houston history with a 37-percent mark from beyond the arc.
Houston also welcomes five newcomers, including junior college transfer Michelle White, sophomore transfer Lauren Flores and freshmen Allie Henderson, Breana Williams and Mae Woods.
