HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball program will welcome Austin, Texas native, Jaime Edwards to the team for the 2011-12 season.
Edwards will join the Cougars following her upcoming senior year at James Bowie High School under coach Cathy Johnson-Landers, a year that has the makings of a solid final season after an impressive campaign as a junior.
"Jaime is such a gamer," head coach Kyla Holas said. "She has really had a breakout senior year so far, and we are excited for her to come and compete for the Cougars. Pitchers are going to be frustrated pitching to her and we hope she keeps that kind of confidence once she steps in to compete for a position next fall."
Last season's team MVP, Edwards was named First-Team All-District as well as Academic All-District. She also was voted an All-State player by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) and by the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) after she helped the Bulldogs become the Texas 5A State Runner-Up.
Edwards made her way onto the Academic All-District Team after her sophomore year and was a part of the Bulldogs' run to the Regional finals. She was also a part of the 2008 District Champion team.
In the summers, Edwards plays for the Round Rock Blaze, where she has also posted a successful career. This summer, the Blaze placed 13th in Marietta, Ga., at the 18U ASA Gold Nationals and took third at the Colorado Independence Invitational. In the previous season Edwards and the Blaze placed 24th out of 164 teams at the ASA 16U Nationals.
