HOUSTON - University of Houston women's basketball senior forward Courtney Taylor was named the Conference USA Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Taylor shares the award with UTEP's Gloria Brown after the opening weekend of play.
Taylor earned her sixth-career weekly honor after notching the 41st-double-double of her storied career with 18 points and 10 rebounds in Houston's season-opening 88-48 rout of UT Arlington on Sunday. The Crockett, Texas, native only played 23 minutes, going 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Taylor hit a bucket at the 7:07 mark of the first half to jump into 10th-place all-time in scoring at Houston, and finished the contest with 1,246 career points. Taylor also posted her 100th-career block, which ranks fifth in UH history.
After a shaky start to Sunday's contest, Taylor kick started the Cougar offense by converting a 3-point play at the 12:43 mark to snap a 1-of-12 shooting effort from the field. Houston would go on a 14-1 run from that point and never look back en route to the 40-point victory.
In the six weeks she's earned Conference USA Player of the Week accolades, Taylor has averaged 17.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.
The Cougars begin a four-game road tilt Saturday at New Mexico State.
