HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday, as the Cougars take on the Texas Longhorns at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.
"We put Texas on our schedule because they're annually a top-25 program," head coach Susan Bush said. "It's a good gauge for our team and our girls. We want to see where we are in comparison and strive to be at their level. We're gradually becoming more competitive with them. We respect their team and we're looking forward to the game."
UH (0-1) will leave the city of Houston for the first time this season. After suffering through a tough loss in a double-overtime game against UTSA and having the season opener against Houston Baptist cancelled due to inclement weather, the Cougars are looking forward to putting the beginning of the season behind them and focusing on the task at hand.
Texas (0-1) opened the season with a 2-1 loss to TCU. After the loss, Texas dropped from No. 15 to No. 25 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Houston looks to shore up the overall series records where Texas holds the advantage at 1-3-0.
Following this Friday's match, the Cougars will embark on another road trip next weekend when they head to the west coast to play two games against Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. The Cougars will return to action at Robertson Stadium to square off against Texas State September 11 at 7 p.m.
