Football Wrapping Up First Week of School

HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team enjoyed a solid workout Thursday afternoon as the 2009 season drew nearer.
As the team wrapped up its first week of school, the Cougars practiced for about two hours Thursday in full pads under hot temperatures.
With the start of school, the Cougars began their regular game-week preparations even though the season doesn't kick off until next weekend against Northwestern State. The team now will work out Friday and Saturday before taking Sunday off.
SEASON OPENER
The Cougars open the season at 6 p.m., Sept. 5, when they play host to Northwestern State on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. It will be the first of six regular-season home games for the Cougars this season.
Fans should note that the starting time for the season opener recently was changed from earlier published schedules.
Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sidelines. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
TICKETS
Cougar fans can purchase good seating for the 2009 season. Excellent reserved season tickets remain available, while 3-game mini plans can be bought for as low as $99.
In addition, single-game general admission tickets remain available for all games with the exception of the Texas Tech contest on Sept. 26.
