Softball Set to Host Texas Southern Tuesday

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team added a doubleheader to the 2009 schedule to be played on Tuesday against Texas Southern at Cougar Softball Stadium at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Cougars are a perfect 11-0 all-time against the Tigers.
Houston comes off a split with Conference USA-rival UCF Sunday. The Cougars won game one, 6-4 and lost in game two, 3-1. The final game was cancelled due to rain.
In game one of the doubleheader senior Jessica Valis hit her fourth triple this season and is three away from tying the conference career record which is 19. Sophomore Angela Spittler, went 3-for-3 in game one and scored three runs.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom continues to lead the Cougars with her batting average of .364. She is tied with senior Laurie Wagner with a team-high 31 RBI. Wagner also leads the team in home runs with seven. Senior Katie Bush is second in batting average (.328), and has 24 runs scored, one double and 38 hits this season.
Texas Southern is 7-27 this season, with Tenesha Skrine leading in batting average at .322. She also has three home runs, a triple and two doubles this season. She leads the team in hits (29), and RBI (10).
Latrece Shello is the leader in steals with 15 for 16 attempts. She has a batting average of .267, and has 24 hits this season.
In the circle, the Tigers are led by Ashley Ramirez who has a 4-15 record with 33 strikeouts. Katie Ortiz has a record of 3-12 record and 6.77 ERA. She has 29 strikeouts this season.
Houston plays UCF in a three-game conference series at Cougar Softball Stadium this weekend beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m.
