Track & Field Sets Four Regional Marks at LSU

LSU Alumni Gold Invitational Results
BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of Houston track and field team racked up four NCAA regional qualifying marks, notching wins in five events at the 2009 LSU Alumni Gold Invitational at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday.
Senior Ivan Diggs won his fourth-straight collegiate high jump competition at the meet, clearing an NCAA regional qualifying 2.14m (7-00.25). Diggs sits atop the conference standings and currently ranks third in the nation.
In the long jump, junior Quin'shundolyn McPherson set a regional qualifying mark with a leap of 6.13m (20-01.50) to finish in a tie for fifth with freshman teammate Tai'shea Reese in the women's invitational.
Senior Dayo Ogunniyi finished first in the long jump 5.95m (19-06.25), recording her first win of the season.
On the men's side, the Cougars swept the top three places led by sophomore Chris Carter, who cleared 7.49m (24-07.00) to take first. Joining Carter were junior Lamar Delaney, who took second with a mark of 7.18m (23-06.75), and sophomore Ed Turner, who finished third with a clearance of 7.18m.
Freshman Whitney Harris set an NCAA qualifying time in the 400m, crossing the finish line with a clocking of 53.83 to finish in sixth place.
The reigning Conference USA Co-Female Athlete of the Week, sophomore Kalyn Floyd qualified regionally in the 200m with a time of 23.95.
The women's 4X100-meter relay team set the final qualifying mark for the day with a time of 44.60 to notch a third-place finish.
Junior Alaysha Ford won the women's triple jump competition, leaping 12.15m (39-10.50). Fellow junior Alex Bentley finished second in the pole vault, clearing 4.90m (16-00.75).
