HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team split Sunday's doubleheader with UCF moving to 8-8 in C-USA and 19-20 overall, winning the first game, 6-4 and losing the second game, 3-1. The Cougars are now 6-1 in C-USA home games.

GAME ONE: HOUSTON 6, UCF 4
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, senior Christa Raley started things off with a single to left field. The two would score on a single up the middle by freshman Melissa Gregson for a 2-0 lead over the Knights.
The Knights batted around in the top of the third and scored three runs on one error and three hits to take the 3-2 lead over the Cougars. Sophomore Baillie Lott walked two and struck out two in the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Houston tied the score at three with a single by senior Katie Bush to score Angela Spittler, who singled to the left side.
Senior Jessica Valis hit her fourth triple this season in the bottom of the fourth inning, which scored Spittler, who hit an infield single, for a 4-3 lead over UCF. Jessica Valis is three triples away from tying the C-USA career record at 19.
Houston took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning beginning with Jessica Valis hitting an RBI-single to score Spittler, who also singled. With bases loaded, Raley was hit-by-pitch and sophomore Katy Beth Sherman would score. Sherman reached base on a fielder's choice.
On two outs in the top of the seventh inning, the Knights added one more run, but it wouldn't be enough for the win and the Cougars would win 6-4.

Jessica Valis would have a SAC fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Haley Valis for the first run of the game, but Willow would be thrown out at third base for the final out of the inning.
