Softball Set to Host UCF in Conference Series

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team is set to host UCF this weekend in a three-game conference series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cougars (18-19, C-USA 7-7) are coming off a series loss at Memphis, where they were swept for the first time since April 18-19, 2005, when they lost a three-game set to Louisville.
UH is 5-0 at home in conference play this season.
Houston leads the all-time series 8-2, with both losses by the Cougars coming in the 2008 season. In the last contest between the two schools, UCF beat Houston in the championship game of the Conference USA Championship held at Cougar Softball Stadium, 4-2.
Senior Katie Bush has a .327 batting average with a double and eight stolen bases, while senior Jessica Valis has three triples and three doubles.
Sophomore Baillie Lott has a 9-8 record in the circle, with 62 strikeouts.
UCF (21-23, C-USA 6-9) enters this weekend's three-game conference series after going 1-2 against Marshall and losing 3-0 to No. 1 Florida. The Knights are 2-8 on the road.
The Knights are led by Breanne Javier, who has a batting average of .352. She has 50 hits, eight of which are doubles and two home runs. Abby McClain (.348) and Tiffany Lane (.346) are also key batters. McClain leads the team with 13 doubles, while Lane leads the team in triples with eight.
Ashleigh Cole is the leader in the circle, capturing 13 wins, and striking out 89 in 149.2 innings pitched. She also has one save this season.
