Softball Falls to Texas A&M, 6-2

HOUSTON--The University of Houston softball team loses 6-2 against No. 17 Texas A&M in the Third Annual Striking Out Breast Cancer Game held at Cougar Softball Stadium.
There were 557 fans that showed up to watch the game and donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation Houston affiliate.
Elaina Nordstrom's mother, Veronica Nordstrom and assistant coach Kim Nesloney's cousin, Taryn Nesloney, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Texas A&M scored three runs early in the top of the first inning. On one out, Erin Glasco hit a home run to right field to score Macie Morrow who reached on a single and Holly Ridley who walked.
After two scoreless innings, the Aggies added two runs in the top of the fourth an sophomore Baillie Lott would come in and pitch for sophomore Amanda Crabtree. A&M scored one more run to lead the game 6-0.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom got the Cougars' first hit in the bottom of the fourth to put senior Katie Bush on third who reached on a walk. Senior Jessica Valis loaded the bases on a walk, but Houston was unable to score after senior Haley Valis struck out to end the scoring threat.
The Cougars were able to put some hits together in the bottom of the fifth. On two outs, sophomore Katie Beth Sherman hit a single to third base to give the Cougars a base runner. Bush walked, and senior Christa Raley would pinch hit for freshman Mary Tyler Dobson and hit a single to score Sherman.
Nordstrom followed Raley by hitting an RBI single to right center to score Bush. Senior Laurie Wagner hit deep to left field, but the leftfielder made the catch to end the inning leading 6-2.
The rest of the game would remain scoreless and the Aggies got the win and moved to 14-8 on the season.
The Cougars move to 8-9 and sophomore Amanda Crabtree moves to 4-5. In 3.1 innings, she struck out seven, walked three, and allowed five hits. Lott stuck out one, allowed no walks and two hits.
Senior Elaina Nordstrom led the Cougars going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Nordstrom currently leads UH in batting average with .457.
Next Up
The Cougars will open Conference USA play in Greenville, N.C. where the Cougars will play a three-game series against East Carolina beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
