HOUSTON -- After opening the 2009 season at Cougar Field, the University of Houston baseball team will take to the road this week for two mid-week games against Stephen F. Austin and Rice.
Houston will open the week against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday at 3 p.m. It is the first of two match-ups between the two schools this season; Houston will welcome the Jacks on April 21.
Tuesday's game will be the 45th meeting between the two programs with Houston holding a 34-10 lead in the all-time series. UH currently holds a four-game win streak in the series dating back to the 2006 season.
Over the weekend, the Jacks went 1-2, defeating Northwestern State and falling to Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi Valley State at the ULM Warhawk Classic.
Wednesday's match-up against cross-town rival Rice will be the first of five games this season, which are all part of the Silver Glove Series. All-time the Owls hold a 77-68 lead, taking four of five games last season.
Rice is also 1-2 following the opening weekend of play, taking the first game of a three game series against Cal Poly.
The Cougars finished opening weekend with a 1-2 record, defeating Kansas State in the final game of the series 3-2 in 10 innings. With the win, head coach Rayner Noble recorded his 500th career win at Houston.
