The University of Houston has announced that three players have been recognized for their individual performances following the Conference USA Championship Game.
The College Football Performance Awards recognized the feats of three Cougar athletes. Junior wide receiver James Cleveland was the National Wide Receiver of the week following his 19-catch, 241-yard, three-touchdown performance. His total of 19 catches was good for second most of the 2009 regular season, and the 241 yards he accounted for through the area was the third best performance. Both of these were personal bests for Cleveland, while his three-touchdown performance equaled his own personal record.
Junior quarterback Case Keenum was selected as a Quarterback Honorable Mention Player of the Week. It is the eighth time this season Keenum has been selected by the CFPA for his efforts. Keenum threw three interceptions for only the second time in his career, but he also connected on 56-of-75 passes for 527 yards and five touchdowns.
Senior punter Chase Turner earned his first nomination for Honorable Mention Punter of the Week. The Friendswood, Texas native launched four punts for 195 total yards.
