Volleyball to Play Host to Sam Houston State on Tuesday

HOUSTON - After spending the first four weekends of the 2008 schedule on the road, the University of Houston volleyball team will play host to Sam Houston State in the home opener at 7pm on Tuesday.
The Sept. 23 match is the latest home start ac¬cording to the best Houston record books.
When the Cougars (6-5) take to the court against the Bearkats it will be the 36th meeting all-time between the two programs. Houston holds a 32-4 lead in the series, winning the last match-up 3-1 in 1997.
Last week, the Cougars originally had a mid-week match-up scheduled and were set to play host to the Flo Hyman Invitational but both were cancelled as a result of Hurricane Ike. As a result, Houston traveled to Arlington, Texas for the UT Arlington/Holiday Inn Invitational on Sept. 19-20. At the tournament UH notched wins over UALR and UT Arlington.
Sam Houston State (5-10) also played in the UT Arlington tournament and finished 0-2. The Bearkats lost to UALR and New Mexico.
Anna Ferguson leads Sam Houston State with 127 kills and has a team-high 22 service aces. Kym Loving paces the team with 413 assists. As a team the Bearkats are hitting .123.
Senior Justine Farmer led the Cougars in two wins last weekend. She finished with 29 kills and a .386 hitting percentage. Sophomore Amanda Carson added 9 service aces in the two wins. She now has a team-high 25 service aces.
