HOUSTON - University of Houston junior infielder Jimmy Cesario and sophomore centerfielder Zak Presley represented the Cougars on the 2008 Conference USA All-Academic Team as selected by the league's sports information directors on Monday.
Cesario collected the honor for the second straight season, joining Southern Miss' Trey Sutton as the only repeat winners in 2008. Although hampered by a wrist injury that forced him to miss 10 games midway through the season, the Metairie, La., native recovered and pushed his batting average near the .300 mark.
A two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Cesario has maintained a 3.55 grade-point average in psychology.
Presley, who has recorded a 3.35 GPA in economics, also is a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and is batting .293 with a home runs, 23 RBIs and 14 stolen bases this season.
Earlier in the year, the Southlake native reeled off an 18-game hitting streak, tying for the seventh longest in UH history.
The Cougars were one of five schools to put multiple members on the Team.
Presley, Cesario and their Cougar teammates return to action at 9 a.m., Wednesday when they face No. 5 seed East Carolina during the first round of the Entergy C-USA Championship, hosted by Tulane at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

These were only the latest academic honors for the Cougar Baseball program. Earlier in the month, eleven team members were named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher.
Those Cougars included Cesario, Presley, sophomore catcher Austin Goolsby, sophomore southpaw Taylor Hammack, freshman shortstop Blake Kelso, freshman third baseman David Murphy, freshman outfielder Caleb Ramsey, freshman righthander Jared Ray, freshman southpaw Matt Taylor, freshman utility player Tom Wertz and former infielder Josh Stirneman.
Stirneman also received the C-USA Academic Medal for posting a cumulative GPA of 3.5 higher or higher for the third straight season, making him the only Cougar to accomplish that feat.
