Track and Field Completes Day Two of Texas Relays

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team wrapped up the second day of the Texas Relays on Thursday, posting four Top 10 finishes at the Mike A. Myers Soccer and Track Stadium in Austin.
Derek Schutz led the way for Houston, finishing in a tie for sixth place in the men's pole vault "B" section with a clearance of 5.05m (16-06.75). Also competing in the event for the Cougars was Alex Bentley, who finished with a best of 4.90m (16-00.75).
Thursday also concluded the competition in the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. Wesley Bray finished seventh in the decathlon, winning three events and scoring 7,251 points. Brittani Williams finished 11th in the heptathlon with a total of 4,746 points, as she too won three events.
Jason Perez posted a time of 52.15 in the men's 400-meter hurdles to finish ninth.
In the women's 4X800-meter relay, the team of Jennifer Harper, Jennifer Anderson, Adriane Guinn and Oumama Hallal finished sixth with a clocking of 9:13.13.
Competition continues Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. with the running of the men's and women's 4X100-meter relays. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the women's javelin and the men's long jump "B" sections.
