Track and Field Wraps Up Day One of Texas Relays

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition in the 2008 Texas Relays on Wednesday at the Mike A. Meyers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin.
Oumama Hallal led the way, winning the "B" section of the women's 1,500-meter run. Hallal set a personal best in the event with a clocking of 4:36.76.
Joining Hallal in the 1500m was Adriane Guinn, who finished fourth with a clocking of 4:43.94.
Jennifer Harper competed in the 800-meter run, setting a mark of 2:16.16.
Wednesday also witnessed the beginning of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon events. After the first day, Wesley Bray currently sits in 11th place with a total of 3,766 points. Brittani Williams posted 2,744 points in the heptathlon.
Competition continues on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the running of the men's 110-meter finals. Other running events to be held are the women's 800m and men's 1500m, as well as the prelims for the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles. The running events will wrap up with the 4X800-meter relays.
Thursday will also mark the opening of the field events, starting at noon with the men's discus. Other field events include the men's and women's weight throw and javelin, men's pole vault, and women's long jump.
