HOUSTON - The University of Houston today announced that three of its 2008 football games have been picked up for broadcast by CBS College Sports. This brings the number to four nationally televised games for the Cougars in new head coach Kevin Sumlin's first season.
In a first-ever match-up, the Cougars' home contest against Air Force on September 13, at Robertson Stadium will kickoff at 2:30 pm on CBS College Sports, which was formally known as College Sports Television (CSTV). Then, two weeks later the Cougars will travel to Greenville, N.C., to square off against East Carolina again at 2:30 pm (CDT) on September 27, on CBS College Sports.
Finally, Houston's home clash with UAB has been moved from Saturday, October 11, to Thursday, October 9 to accommodate CBS College Sports. The nationally televised game will kick-off at 7 pm.
"You will note with the new schedule that University of Houston will be getting strong exposure for a number of our games around the country," UH Director of Athletics Dave Maggard said. "We are pleased with the exposure, as it gives our alumni and potential recruits a window to our outstanding program and university.
"This schedule goes hand in hand with our desire to be back on the national scene with a very strong presence."
Also, the Cougars have two late season home contests that also could be picked up by CBS College Sports and broadcast nationally: November 8 versus Tulane (7 pm) and November 22 against UTEP (2:30 pm). The October 28 road game at Marshall is slated for an ESPN Tuesday night broadcast.
Houston kicks off its 2008 season by playing host to Southern University on Saturday, August 30, at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
