HOUSTON HEAD COACH Danny Hughes
Opening Statement
"Certainly, we would like to congratulate Southern Miss. I thought that they came back and played a full 40 minutes of basketball here today. It has kind of been a tale of two halves for us like it has been all year. We played a great first half. Executed well. Then things just kind of fell apart for us there in the second half. We just did not have the fortitude to get it back together. I am awfully proud of our young kids. They faced a lot of adversity this year. These two sitting beside me [Twiggy Mcintyre and Tye Jackson] have done a wonderful job in trying to help our basketball team in the situation that we have been in. You have to give a lot of credit. They played the game and kept battling. I just thought that they made a few more plays than we did down the stretch."
On the Southern Miss press in the second half:
"I tell you that we just got a little bit quick in what we were trying to do. We got in a hurry. We did not get in our regular formation. We allowed them to get some easy baskets, which allowed for momentum to get on their side. Certainly when momentum is on your side, you can certainly push forward a little bit and that is what they did."
HOUSTON GUARD Twiggy McIntyre
On finding the rhythm in the second half:
"Southern Miss came out and they were very aggressive. It was a box and one on me. It was executed very well. That did throw my rhythm off a little bit and I was not as aggressive on the offensive end as I usually am. I can give Southern Miss credit, but I have to take responsibility for not being as productive as I need to be for my team."
"Coach has emphasized all year that we are a team. There is no one significant player that should just be the go to player. Our offense is designed for everyone and anyone to get touches and to score. Our young players just did a phenomenal job. It is the responsibility of the seniors when the game gets our of control. We have that experience and we should have that maturity to get it back into control."
HOUSTON GUARD Tye Jackson
On the struggles that started the second half: "I think that in the first half that we played great. We kept the lead up and played good defense, but we came out a little lax in the second half."
