Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at LSU Tiger Relays

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Four members of the University of Houston track and field team set regional qualifying marks at the LSU Tiger Relays this weekend in Baton Rouge, La.
Junior Dayo Ogunniyi and sophomore Quin'shundolyn McPherson led the Cougars on Friday, setting regional marks in the women's long jump. Ogunniyi finished in first place, clearing 6.17m (20-03.00), while McPherson took second with a leap of 6.07m (19-11.00) as Houston swept the top two positions in the competition.
Sophomores Brandon Hubbard and Ashley Bryant followed on Saturday, setting their own regional qualifying marks in the discus. Bryant finished with a best of 48.98m (160-08)on the day, taking first place. Hubbard finished in second place and set a new personal best with a toss of 51.77m (169-10).
In the women's high jump, Laura Allred finished in third place, clearing 1.65m (5-05.00).
Freshman Morgan Lancaster took third in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.55m (11-07.75). Also competing was freshman Shannan Arnold, who finished seventh. Arnold had a best of 3.25m (10-08.00)
For the men, sophomore Alex Bentley finished second, clearing 4.90m (16-00.75), while sophomore Wesley Bray finished with a best of 4.45m (10-07.25).
In the women's 1500m, senior Oumama Hallal took second place, posting a time of 4:40.20 and setting a new personal record. Also competing for the Cougars were seniors Jennifer Harper and Adriane Guinn. Harper took fourth with a mark of 4:45.74, while Guinn finished fifth with a clocking of 4:52.37.
Freshmen Thomas Lang and Chris Carter finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Lang jumped 14.88m (48-10.00), while Carter set a mark of 14.70m (48-02.75).
Lang also finished tied for fifth place in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.95m (6-04.75)
Freshman Kiara Pulliam took second in the women's shot put with a toss of 13.68m (44-10.75). Fellow freshman Charlissa Foster grabbed third place with a mark of 13.54m (44-05.25).
For the men, freshman Sidney Flores took eighth place with a toss of 14.50m (47-07.00).
Freshman William Krokey finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.01m (164-01). Hubbard finished seventh with a mark of 49.00m (160-09).
In the women's hammer throw, Bryant posted a personal-best mark of 44.30m (145-04), while Pulliam tossed a best of 41.02m (134-07).
Sophomore Brittani Williams competed in the javelin, finishing with a best of 42.27m (138-08).
In the men's long jump, freshman Ed Turner and Bray finished tied for eighth place, clearing 7.20m (23-07.50). Carter also competed for Houston and finished with a long of 6.91m (22-08.00).
In the 100-meter dash, Turner and Jones posted times of 11.34 and 11.48, respectively. For the women, freshman Kalyn Floyd (12.01), freshman Christi Jones (12.18) and Ogunniyi (12.10) also competed.
In relay action, the women's 4x800 team finished in first place with a time of 9:04.36. The men's 4x100 team took second with a clocking of 40.92, while the women's team took third with a time of 45.97.
The men's 1600 sprint medley posted a mark of 3:23.66, good for a second place finish. The men's 4x200 team took second (1:25.89) and the women's team finished third (1:37.41).
The Cougars return to action when they travel to Austin to compete in the Texas Relays hosted by the Texas Longhorns. The two-day meet will be held April 2-3.
