HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team returns to action at 7 p.m., Friday, when the Cougars face Conference USA rival Tulsa at Robertson Stadium.
Houston (4-5-0, 0-2-0 C-USA) has dropped four tough, one-goal decisions since the team's season-long four game winning-streak.
The Cougars have outshot their opponents by an average of 15-9 per contest but have struggled to find the back of the net at times.
"We need to find a way to score goals," head coach Susan Bush said. "We have been outplaying and outshooting our opponents but we have struggled finishing." "That is the one missing ingredient we have this season, that one player who can put the ball away in the offensive third."
Houston also has battled the injury bug this season, causing several changes to the lineup and limiting the team's depth.
Captain Shelby Scott has been a steady in goal for UH this season. The senior netminder sits atop the C-USA individual leaders with a 0.74 goals against average and ranks fourth in save percentage (.812) and shutouts (3).
Freshman forward Jessica Zavalza has been very active for the Cougars in the attacking third, leading the team with three goals in her rookie campaign.
Fellow freshman defender Stephanie Derieg leads the club with three assists.
Houston owns a 2-0-1 all-time record against Tulsa, but all three games went into double-overtime before being decided. UH took a 3-2 win in the only previous match-up at home.
