Volleyball Drops Two To Open CenturyTel Premier

San Marcos, TEXAS -- The University of Houston volleyball team lost two matches Friday in the opening day of the CenturyTel Premier hosted by Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
Despite losing both matches, junior Justine Farmer recorded two double-doubles extending her streak to four games.
Houston (3-5) opened the day with a noon match against the host Texas State. The Bobcats won the match 3-1 with scores of 25-30, 27-30, 30-21, and 23-30.
Farmer (EL Paso, Texas/Americas HS) paced the Cougars recording her third straight double-double with 23 kills and 18 digs.
Houston was also led by freshman Robin Fitzgerald with 39 assists, freshman Lucy Charuk with 12 kills and freshman Amanda Carson with 21 digs.
The Cougars dropped the first two games hitting just .188 and .079, respectively, but they would earn a convincing game three win, 30-21. Despite making a comeback in game three UH couldn't hold on to force their third five-game match in as many days.
Without much time to rest, Houston returned to the court to face the Missouri Tigers at 5pm, their third match against the Big 12 in 2007. Houston fell to 0-3 against the Big 12 losing 3-1 to the Tigers with scores of 31-29, 22-30, 15-30, and 21-30.
Houston jumped out to an early lead in game one but the Tigers would pull ahead taking a 20-14 lead. The Cougars weren't going to lose this one battling back to tie the game 26-26 and went on to earn the win, 31-29.
After taking the first game, Houston would go on to lose the next three. However, Farmer recorded another double-double for the Cougars with 23 kills and 16 digs. With her 46 kills on the night, Farmer moved into eighth place in the Cougar career kills list with 1,219.
Fitzgerald added 50 assists and sophomore Erin Rice had 13 kills.
