San Marcos, TEXAS -- The University of Houston volleyball team lost their third straight match Saturday to Cal State Fullerton at the CenturyTel Premier in San Marcos, Texas.
Houston rallied behind junior Justine Farmer's fifth straight double-double but it was not enough as the Cougars fell 3-1 to the Titans with scores of 29-31, 33-31, 29-31, 15-30.
Famrer led the Cougars with 22 kills and 15 digs. The El Paso native also continued her assent into the Cougar record books, moving into seventh place on the Houston career kills list with 1,241.
Freshman Lucy Charuk continued to be a solid contributor for the Cougars being named to the All Tournament Team after recording 39 kills on 96 attempts and four digs in the Cougars' three matches.
UH wasn't going to go down without a fight, forcing three of the four matches into extra points. With 39 ties and 17 lead changes in the first three games, neither team was ever able to take a decisive lead in the match.
After losing game one, 29-31, the Cougars looked to take game two and get back into the win column but after falling behind 11-4, they would have to come from behind for the win. Houston slowly chipped away at the deficit to tie the game at 28-28 and after two late kills by Charuk and a Cal State Fullerton attack error Houston earned the win.
The Cougars had one final chance to even the score and force game five but this time the Titan's 21-10 advantage was too much to overcome. Houston was out hit -.036 to .405 in the game.
Houston will return home to host Conference USA rival Rice Owls on Sept. 13 and will play host to the Houston Tournament Sept. 14-15.
