Soccer Handed 4-0 Loss By Texas State Sunday

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The University of Houston soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Texas State Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
The Cougars (3-2-1) dropped their second-straight match while the Bobcats (1-8) snapped their eight-game losing streak.
Houston mustered 14 shots, including six on goal, but could not find the back of the net. The Cougars have been held scoreless for their last 290 minutes of action.
Texas State opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Britney Curry dribbled around UH goalkeeper Shelby Scott (Mesquite, Texas/North Mesquite HS) and tallied her first goal of the season.
Andrea Seledee, who assisted on the first goal, knocked in a rebound in the 38th minute, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 halftime cushion.
Nicole Kinard added to the Texas State tally in the 61st minute when she rifled one in from 20 yards out and Jerelyn Lemmie closed out the scoring with a chip from 40-yards out in the 73rd minute that beat Scott who was playing off her line.
Scott made eight saves on the day and took her second-straight loss.
Lauri Byrne (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll HS), Islara Rodriguez (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) and Crystal Trevino (Austin, Texas/McNeil HS) combined for 11 of Houston's 14 shots and four of the six shots on goal but none found their mark.
Bobcat `keeper Amanda Byrd made six saves for the game, earning her first shutout of the season.
Houston returns home for three matches this week, facing HBU at 7 p.m. CDT Tuesday, UTSA at 7 p.m. Friday and TCU at 1 p.m. Sunday. The TCU match will be aired nationally by CSTV on a tape-delayed basis.
