Volleyball to Play Host to Houston Invitational This Weekend

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will play host to the Houston Invitational this weekend at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
Houston will face No. 6 Texas Friday at 5 pm to open tournament play. UH fans are invited to take advantage of the `Pack the House' promotion with tickets being priced at just $2. Call 713-GOCOOGS or log on to www.UHCougars.com to purchase tickets.
Texas and New Mexico State will play at 5:30 pm Saturday and Houston will close out the weekend against the Aggies at noon Sunday.
The last time Houston and Texas met, the Cougars fell to the Longhorns 3-0. The 2004 win gave Texas an 18-2 advantage in the all-time series and a 2-1 lead since 2000.
When Houston plays New Mexico State on Sunday it will be the first match since the two schools met the last time in 1987. Houston came away with a 3-0 win in that competition. Houston holds the all-time series lead 4-3.
Following the Houston Invitational, the Cougars will host Cal State Bakersfield on Sept. 5 and then travel to San Marcos, Texas for the CenturyTel Premier tournament.
