HOUSTON - University of Houston softball head coach Kyla Holas announced the hiring of Kim Nesloney Monday afternoon as an assistant coach. Nesloney had served as the program's volunteer assistant coach the previous two seasons after her playing career with the Cougars from 2002-05.
"Kim was a very dedicated athlete and captain as a player. Her knowledge of the game is what has allowed her to transition into an excellent coach with our program these past two seasons," Holas said. "She has done a fantastic job with the outfield and is responsible for the development of All-Conference USA First-Team centerfielder Katie Bush. We're excited to have Kim with our program full time."
Nesloney was showered with numerous awards and accolades during her playing career as a four-year starter in centerfield that included 2004 and 2005 All-Conference USA First-Team honors in addition to a 2004 NFCA All-South Region Second-Team selection. She also was a standout in the classroom as a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and graduated with a degree in business in December 2005.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity, and I'm glad to be working at my alma mater," Nesloney said. "This is a program that I have been a part of for a long time. It feels good to be able to work side-by-side with the same coaches that coached me and be familiar with everything. It's great to see this program build and grow to a conference championship team. I look forward to the opportunity to continue that success."
Nesloney's presence can be felt all over the Cougar records book. She is program's career leader in walks (113), stolen bases (38) and triples (11). The Beaumont native also is in the Top Five in seven other categories, including career hits (178), doubles (27), RBIs (67), runs scored (143), on-base percentage (.410), total bases (269) and games played (214).
