Track and Field to Compete at California Collegiate Challenge

HOUSTON - The Houston track and field team will travel to Berkeley, Calif., this weekend for the California Collegiate Challenge. The meet is scheduled to start at noon (CDT) with the field events. The distance running events will begin at 8p.m. Saturday's competition will resume at 1 p.m.
The meet is hosted by the University of California, Berkeley and will take place on Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. Houston will compete against teams from all over the country including the ranked men and women's teams at Stanford and Oregon and the ranked women's team from California, all among Trackshark.com's Top 25. Also participating in the meet are Cal State Fullerton, Florida (M), Illinois (W), Nevada-Reno (W), Sacramento State, San Diego State (W), and Wichita State.
Last weekend UH traveled to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational. At the meet senior Ebonie Floyd won the 100 meters with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 11.40. The time also ranks as the fifth fastest in school history. Freshman Brandon Hubbard threw the fifth best hammer throw in school history (40.31m/132-03) to finish 13th.
The Cougars currently have 10 individuals and three relay teams that have qualified for the NCAA Regional in Des Moines, Iowa on May 25-26.
Houston will have one more meet in Fayetteville, Ark. on May 4 when they compete in the Arkansas Twilight before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships hosted by Rice University.
